“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.” –Romans 8:28
Sometimes things happen in our lives and we wonder, “Why is this happening?” To us, events don’t make sense. We may become frustrated and angry because it is happening. We may even shout out to God and ask “WHY?” Even though we do not understand or do not see the big picture, God does. God is working to make something good from all the situations in our lives.
In 2007, Ken was in a terrible car accident that left him out of work and in a wheelchair for three months. We lost Ken’s step-son in this same accident. We did not understand why this was happening to us. The accident brought many medical bills and added stresses to our lives. We found ourselves in an overwhelming place. Just as we thought we were on the verge of overcoming some of the obstacles places before us, we learned that the medical bills outweighed the max limit the insurance would pay, and we would receive no financial compensation to further assist us in paying the medical debt. It was also during this time, due to other circumstances, we were in danger of losing our house. It was at this very difficult time in our lives, we did not know what we were going to do. But, God had a plan beyond our current situation.
God saw the big picture and He knew how he could work all these things together for the good. Through this chain of events and a few others, God brought us to where we are today. He brought us to St. Luke’s Asbury, where we found a family of faith that loves us. He brought us to a place that is so much better than where we were before. I thank God for that every day!
