“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth.” –Psalm 33:6

I recently had the privilege of purchasing a new study Bible. It was because of a wonderful gift card I received at Christmas. I spent some time looking at each of the Bibles on the shelf. There were so many wonderful translations and equally as many versions to pick from. It was truly a fun experience, picking out a new Bible that I hope will be a blessing for me for many years to come.

While I was looking for a Bible, I could not help but think of how blessed we are to have such access to God’s word. We live in an amazing time in the world. Bibles are so readily available. I have a Bible on my desk, in my house, in my bag that I carry back and forth to work. I have access to the Bible on my phone and my computer. There has never been a time in history like today. We have unprecedented access to God’s Word.

What a gift the Bible is. It is a guide for our life. It is food for our soul. The Bible contains the redemptive story of God’s love that defines who we are. As I stood in that aisle I took just a moment to give thanks for God’s wonderful gift and recommitted myself to reading and engaging God’s Holy Word as much as possible.

I hope that this year you will also take time to immerse yourself in reading the Bible. A great start is by reading at least one chapter a week from the Gospel of John. Perhaps you could join a new Bible study? Whatever you do, I know you will be blessed as you encounter God’s powerful Word.
