“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” -Deuteronomy 31:8

One of my favorite contemporary Christian musicians is Matt Maher. Matt is a singer/songwriter who has been helping to provide wonderful and thoughtful music for over three decades. He is an award-winning artist, but much more than that, he is a faithful Christian who works tirelessly to connect his faith and music.

Music has the ability to speak into the most exciting and challenging times of our lives. Good lyrics and melody combine to speak into our lives and remind us of the hope we have in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Of the many songs that Matt Maher has written, one has recently reminded me of the gift we have with a God who loves and cares for us.

Matt Maher’s song “Run to The Father” speaks of the gift we have in going to God with our joys and concerns. God is not a long way off. God is with us. We are not alone. When we have worry or joy we can go to God. I love the lyrics of the chorus:

I run to the Father
Fall into grace
I’m done with the hiding
No reason to wait
My heart needs a surgeon
My soul needs a friend
So I’ll run to the Father
Again and again

There is no limit to the number of times we can run to the Father. Every time we go to God in prayer, in worship, or study, we encounter a God who truly cares for us. God, who is rich in mercy and grace, will work to heal our broken hearts. God will celebrate with us. God be with us through each of life’s challenging moments.

As Matt Maher writes, there is “No reason to wait.” We can fall into the grace of God and find healing, hope, and joy. Hide nothing from God. Take time today to pray, sing, and look to God. God will be there, and God will care for us.
