“‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you; that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you, in the land which the Lord your God gives you.” – Deuteronomy 5:16

Like many children in the summer time, Ruby Kate often goes to work with her mom. Ruby Kate’s mom, Amanda runs a business that operates out of several nursing homes in their community of Harrison, Arkansas. One day, while Ruby Kate was at work with her mom she noticed a resident staring out a large window. Ruby Kate approached the resident and asked what she was doing. What happened next helped Ruby Kate find a way to bless several lives.

While in front of that window, the resident told Ruby Kate that she was watching as her beloved dog was being loaded into a car. Pearl, the resident of the nursing home was unable to care for her pet. She was sad as she watched her beloved pet going away. Ruby Kate knew she could do something to help.

Ruby Kate was willing use her own money to help provide more visits with the dog. That is exactly what she did.

Ruby Kate did not stop there.

Helping just felt right. Ruby Kate began visiting with other residents of the nursing home. She began to ask each of them the same question, “If you could have three wishes, what would they be?” The residents loved spending time with Ruby Kate and they all shared their wishes. Some wanted fast food while others wanted new clothes. Ruby Kate started the “Three Wishes Project.” To date, she has raised $26,000.00 on GoFundMe to help make these residents wishes come true.

Ruby Kate reminded me that we all have the ability to make a difference. She saw someone who was hurting and unhappy. She gave her time and her gifts to help create a moment of joy in so many people’s lives. Each of us have the ability to bring joy to another person’s life. This is what God would have us do. We are to care for one another, especially those who can no longer care for themselves.
