December 3, 2016 Daily Devotional
I remember as a child making a paper Advent chain each year. Each chain link had a scripture from the Christmas story on it. Each day we would remove a chain and read the scripture. I remember my brother and I becoming more and more excited as the chain grew shorter over the month. I am sure my brother and I did not fully understand the meaning behind Advent, we were most likely just excited for Christmas to come.
This year, I found a new idea to celebrate Advent and to help others in need. It is called the Reverse Advent Calendar. Instead of removing something each day, I will be adding something. Each day I will add an item to my Advent Box, then on Christmas Eve the box will be donated to someone in need. I have a family in mind to donate this special box to, so I will fill it with items that I know they will enjoy along with toys for the children in the family.
I believe taking the time each day to do this will help me to prepare my heart and my mind for the true meaning of the Christmas season! Each day as I place the item in the box, I will take the time to pray for the family and to thank God for the many blessings He has given me. I feel this will be a great way to share God’s love and bring hope to this family!
