God has given each of us passions, hobbies, and interests that make our lives unique. These are sometimes seen as diversions from ‘real life.’ In truth, these hobbies are a reflection of how God designed us. They often reflect our creative gifts that we don’t always get to use within the limits of our daily work environment. When we get to use these passions to bless others, it brings great joy to all.
Mikayla Freeman is a mother of an 8-year-old son with a passion for cars. Mikayla’s son, Tristan, loves just about anything with wheels, but he is a big fan of sports cars. As Mikayla was preparing for Tristan’s birthday, she decided to try something different. She reached out to a few local car clubs, via social media, to see if she could get a few cars to do a show in her neighborhood. She knew that even a few cars would make Tristan’s day. In her post, Mikayla said, “He is a major car guy.” She just wanted to help make Tristan’s day special.
What happened on Tristan’s birthday left Mikayla speechless and made Tristan a very happy car guy. Over 80 different cars and 100 people showed up for a surprise car show for Tristan. There were sports cars, trucks, souped up cars, and so much more. Tristan had the best day possible! There was a car parade, and some let Tristan sit in their amazing vehicles. Some people even brought gifts.
Mikayla said, “I don’t think money could buy the happiness and community we had here.” People gave their time to make one person happy. It turned out to be a blessing for an entire community.
When we are willing to give our time to other people, we can accomplish so much good. When we use our passions and hobbies to bless others, we can truly make a difference. Tristan was truly gifted with a wonderful birthday because people listened to a need, and they used their God-given gifts to help. We can all make a difference if we are willing to do the same.
