“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” –Proverbs 13:16
Malcolm Mitchell has made his mark on the football field. While playing for the University of Georgia, Malcolm was named to the All-SEC team. Malcolm finished his career at Georgia in 2015. He finished his time playing for the Bulldogs as the third best receiver in the history of the school. He accomplished this while missing a season and a half due to an ACL injury.
In 2016 Malcolm was drafted by the New England Patriots and now plays in the National Football League. He has achieved, through hard work and dedication, his dream of playing football at the highest level.
Football is the game that Malcolm plays on Sundays, but the game he is changing is the literacy rates of children in Georgia, Malcolm’s home state. He is committed to helping children learn to read because of his own struggle when he first arrived at the University of Georgia. His first year of college Malcolm realized he needed to improve is academic game. Malcolm was only able to read at a junior high level. He began to read everything in sight with the same level of hard work and dedication he had on the football field. His love of reading is now as much of a passion as his love for football.
Malcolm’s love for reading helped him to find a new talent he never knew he had. Malcolm has recently released his first children’s book, “The Magician’s Hat.” This book is a product of his love for reading and his hope to encourage children to find their own love of reading.
Today, whenever Malcolm is not at work on the football field, he can be found in elementary schools across the state of Georgia sharing his love of reading. Through his organization, Read with Malcolm, he is working to help children develop the same passion to become life-long learners.
Malcolm Mitchell has now achieved his dream of playing in the NFL. He has also graduated from the University of Georgia. Malcolm worked hard to change his own life and thankfully he is now changing the game for others. We too can be game changers, just like Malcolm. Maybe you don’t have the skills to be an NFL wide receiver, but when we dedicate our time and passion to helping others succeed in life we are making a difference.
