“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:9
At my daughter’s elementary school, the fourth graders were just given the opportunity to sign up for the Kindness Club. Carter, being my sweet gal, jumped at the opportunity. The Kindness Club is run by the school counselors and gives these students a chance to spread kindness in several ways. I was so impressed and elated when I read about this in the latest email. Students in the Kindness Club are asked to attend a morning meeting once a month and are given the chance to spread kindness around the school and the community.
Here is a list of a few of the things Carter will be doing in the Kindness Club:
-Next week members from each class will come down on their assigned day to help box and count cans for our Food Drive!
– After our Gift Drive in December, our Kindness Club will be taking a “field trip” to help deliver the gifts to an Elementary school in Edmond with great need!
– Each member received a “Kindness Kit Bag” that had a kindness pen, kindness colors, kindness stickers, and a “Be Kind” card. Their task each month is to hand out their kindness stickers to a student(s) in need. Their “Be Kind” card has acts of kindness on it and once they do an act of kindness, they pass the card along to another student (to create a ripple effect). They will get new stickers and Be Kind cards each month.
I love that Carter is at a school with an administration who understands the need of teaching kindness and gratitude in the lives of children. In the world today, it isn’t always easy to find stories of joy. However, this little club at an Elementary school in Edmond gives me hope. It reminds me that one small act can create a ripple effect large enough to truly change someone’s life.
After one meeting with the Kindness Club, Carter came home and wrote out seven thank you notes. As I watched her, I was humbled by the joy it brought her to thank someone else. I am beyond grateful for the affect this school club will have on her life. It also reminded me how easy it is to spark joy in someone’s day… it may just be a simple thank you note. I encourage you to take time today to write someone a thank you note. Carter has inspired me to do the same, and I hope the Kindness Club can inspire you too!
