“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” –Galatians 6:2

Josette Duran has been sending extra food to school in her son’s lunch for some time. Her son, Dylan had asked for the extra food and Josette thought he was just a hungry, growing boy. Josette’s son’s heart is much bigger than his stomach.

During lunch her son noticed another boy sitting off by himself. This other young boy was only eating a small fruit cup. Josette’s son offered to share his lunch with his friend. It turns out that this other boy’s mother had lost her job some time back. Josette continued to pack an extra lunch so that both of the boys could eat together each day.

Josette Duran was called to the principal’s office where she met the mother of the young boy she had been sending lunch to each day. The mother extended her gratitude to Josette. This mother knew they had been feeding her son and she offered to pay them back. She was happy to tell her that she had a new job. Josette refused to accept the money and told her how glad she was that she could help.

This small act of kindness only took a few moments each day. Yet, it is a big reminder that what we do matters. An extra sandwich, another bottle of water, and some chips helped feed a little boy whose family was going through a hard time. Dylan had a big heart and realized his friend needed help and Dylan’s mom was willing help. Kindness does not take much, but it can make all the difference in the world.
