“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 28:19
Not long after we had just moved into our house, we were in our front yard, taking a good look at our front flower beds. As we were taking a look around, our next-door neighbor came out of her house to introduce herself to us. We had a nice conversation as we stood in our yard on a beautiful June day.
We were not long into our conversation with our new neighbor when she asked us, “Do you have a church?” The conversation had not yet turned to what I do for a living, so we told her, “Yes we have a church, and I am one of the pastors.” She told us that she was happy we were active in church and that she was going to invite us to her church if we did not have one of our own. I told her how happy I was that she would invite us.
There are many ways to care for our neighbors. One of the most important ways we can care for others is to invite them to church. People need a church home, a family of faith. As members of a family of faith, we should take any opportunity we have to invite people to church. There is no better way to show our neighbors that we care than to invite them to join our family of faith in worship and mission.
Who will you invite to church this week? It is a great way to love our neighbors.
