Day after day, Ginger Sprouse drove past the same intersection where she would see Victor Hubbard standing. Victor was homeless and suffered from mental illness. For years, Victor stood at the same intersection waiting for his mother to come and pick him up. Sadly, Victor’s mother never came, but the 38-year-old waited still. Ginger Sprouse was moved by Victor’s story and finally began to develop a friendship with Victor.
It was not long after getting to know Victor that Ginger decided to do something to help Victor. She and her husband opened their house Victor who agreed to come and live with them. They immediately began to work to help Victor the help he needed. The family set up a GoFundMe page to help with Victor’s expenses. He has received a tremendous outpouring of love and support and now is experiencing a healthy and whole life.
Ginger Sprouse saw a person homeless, sick and in need of care. She could have continued to drive by, but she gave victor the gift of her time. She listened to his story and offered to help. Today, Victor has a much different story. He has received the care he needs to be mentally healthy and now he and Ginger help others by sharing their story and raising funds to help the mentally ill and homeless.
The actions of Ginger Sprouse were brave. To open her home and her family’s life up to Victor changed Victor’s life. When we are willing to listen and give ourselves to the service of others we can bring wholeness and new life to the hurting people in our midst. We have the ability to help and to bless others. When we are willing to serve we, like Ginger and Victor can truly share God’s love and bring hope to the world.
