“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” – 1 Peter 3:8

The mailman is a special part of any neighborhood. Monday through Saturday they go from house to house bringing the mail. Although we do not often thank about our mail delivery, they are a vital part of our business and our life.

Floyd Martin is one such mailman who has blessed a local neighborhood for over 35 years. He is an important part of the community. Floyd not only delivers mail, often he is found bringing packages and newspapers to elderly neighbors. Floyd often checks up on people in the neighborhood. He carries lollipops and give them out to the neighborhood children and often he is found with treats for the local neighborhood dogs and cats. Floyd is an important part of each family in his neighborhood.

Because Floyd is such a wonderful person, the people of his neighborhood were terribly sad to hear that he was retiring. They are going to miss his warm and caring presence. So, the people of this community in Atlanta, GA got together to give Floyd a proper sendoff. They planned a block party to celebrate Floyds years of service. The neighbors took to social media to share their stories of how Floyd had blessed their lives. Before long and small fund had been started to help send Floyd on a special retirement vacation.

The people on Floyd’s route described him as, “A ray of sunshine.” His kindness and caring have truly made a difference in so many people’s lives. He took time out of his work and busy day to see the needs of his neighbors. Some of them needed a kind word, some needed a special effort for their delivery, while others just needed a smile or a piece of candy.

Floyd Martin is a reminder to us all that being a good neighbor, caring for the people around us, is one sure way to make a positive difference in the lives of the people around us. Who can you bless today? How can you make a difference to a neighbor, a co-worker, a friend? When we give our time and effort we can all be good neighbors and bring a ray of sunshine to others.
