“Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.” – Song of Songs 2:12
It seems like a lifetime ago, but just yesterday, that my sisters and I would go to my Grandma’s house on a Sunday morning and spend the afternoons in her garden playing and entertaining her and her friends.
We used to take her little footstool and pick flowers from her garden and make a chain around the sides of the stool. We would then take turns singing songs from the Sound of Music. We would sing “Edelweiss,” “Climb Every Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” and “So Long Farewell.” We knew every word and did not miss a beat!
My Grandparents and all their friends seemed to love our afternoon concerts. They would sing our praises to everyone and anyone who would listen. As I got older I realized that my grandparents would sing my praises on just about anything that I would do, even if I wasn’t very good at it! The older, I got, the less I sang. My love for music and the memories shared with those flowers and songs will always be something I’ll cherish.
I still love listening to beautiful music and smelling sweet flowers. That is one of the reasons I love my family of faith. No matter which campus I am at on Sunday morning there is always beautiful music to hear and lovely flowers to enjoy and more sweet memories to be made.
