“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” -Proverbs 3:27
A school field trip is a wonderful experience for students. They leave the confines of the classroom and are free to explore a new environment. Field trips allow new opportunities to learn. Sometimes, field trips allow students to celebrate their accomplishments with a day away to celebrate. Alex Dupuis is a 12-year-old student in Road Island. His class took a field trip to the beach to learn and have a fun day away.
While Alex was on the beach, enjoying a day away from the classroom, he spotted one of his classmates struggling to keep their head above water. Alex jumped into the water and proceeded to swim to the aid of his classmate. Alex struggled but was able to hold his friend above water until the lifeguards arrived and rescued them both. Alex’s bravery and quick action saved his friend’s life.
The book of Proverbs teaches us the importance of doing good, as we have the power to do so. There are many reasons that keep us from doing good, in a given moment. We should not fear doing good. The blessings we share with others when we use our time, talents, and gifts are an important outpouring of our faith. We understand what God has done for us. God is good and created us to do good. (Ephesians 2:10)
Alex Dupuis did not hesitate to help. Alex is a strong swimmer. Although swimming to help another person is dangerous, he leapt into action and saved a life. We, like Alex, are called to act when we see a person in need. When we understand that we are created and called to do good, we take action that makes a difference in the world.
