“His master replied, well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness” – Matthew 25:23
This passage from the Parable of the Talents is a wonderful principle as we consider our stewardship of time, talent, and financial resources. Jesus’ story suggests that faithfulness in the details of life will result in the privilege of responsibility for greater things.
I remember my parents teaching me this concept very early in life with the “envelope system.” We received a few dollars each month in several envelopes – giving, saving, spending, etc. It was our responsibility to make sure we used the money wisely and the exercise taught us the values of charitable giving, deferred gratification, and gratitude. Many years later, the dollar amounts are different, but the concept is still the same! Each one of us is responsible to God, our families, our coworkers, and our friends to use all that we have – time, talent, and financial resources – to bless lives, make a difference, and have fun along the way!
As each one of us is praying about how we will support our church family in 2020, I hope we will remember that with God, we have ENOUGH, and even more than ENOUGH, to be able to share with others. Whether we choose to give to ministries that feed the hungry, bring hope to the desperate, offer kindness to the stranger, or bring love to the broken, our gifts honor God and help others to experience the grace of God.
Prayer for Today: Dear God, I want to be a faithful servant by taking care of the little and big details in my life. Help me to commit today and every day to give my very best in order to accomplish Your will and purpose in the world. Amen.
