“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.” – Psalms 91:14
My oldest daughter recently sent me a meme (a meme is something such as a video, picture, or phrase that a lot of people send to each other on the Internet) of Kim Kardashian on the phone with her mother and the caption was, “Me calling my mom anytime there’s an inconvenience in my life!” She’s right about that; she tends to call me anytime she experiences a “crisis.” I’m pretty sure I did that to my mom when she was alive, too. While my daughter may think this is an irritation for me, I’m thankful to be one she goes to when she needs help or needs to vent.
Who do you call when the inconveniences of life pile up? Hopefully, you have a good friend or relative to lean on. I tend to find another person to express my frustrations to when things don’t go my way. However, I often remind my daughter, and I’ll remind all of us of this fact; God really wants to be the One we go to! He can do more for us than anyone, if we’ll just call on Him. He waits so patiently for us to finish the useless banter, then lovingly listens as we express those same thoughts and feelings to Him. This, of course, is when true change begins. Many times, as we pour out our hearts to Him, He shows us new ways to think about our problems and address them. Sometimes He does nothing that’s obvious to us, but that may be best for the good of all. Sometimes we can’t see His work, but we find out later that He was lining things up for us all along. We should never doubt His goodness to us!
During this Thanksgiving season, as we think about our blessings, I hope we’ll remember God’s goodness to us. He really is everything all His names imply: Wonderful, Counselor, Almighty God, Prince of Peace, Savior, Redeemer, and Friend. I pray that your heart will burst with thanksgiving for God’s goodness this season and always.
I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands
I have a Father
He calls me His own
He’ll never leave me
No matter where I go
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call
