His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”– Matthew 15:33

We don’t have enough.

That’s what Jesus’ disciples thought about the prospect of feeding 5,000 people who were hoping to be healed (Matthew 14), and later, feeding another 4,000 people (Matthew 15).

I am not enough.

That’s what one of the world’s most popular Christian singers thought about her ability… after reaching the pinnacle of her profession.

In both situations – when doubt was overwhelming – God proved to be enough.

The miracles of Jesus are well known.  But not many fans of Lauren Daigle may know about her personal struggles with confidence.

We’re talking about a 28-year-old artist from Lafayette, Louisiana, who just broke an all-time record.  Lauren Daigle’s song, You Say, has now been No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart for 62 weeks.

It was the first song she wrote after the release of her No. 1 debut album, How Can It Be.  So, she kicks off her career with a No. 1 album… and how did she feel about herself?

“Unsure and insecure,” she said.

As odd as that seems, her past makes it understandable.  As a teenager, Lauren was diagnosed with an immune deficiency that caused her to sleep 14 hours at night.  She didn’t have the energy to go to high school for nearly two years.  Lauren questioned her dream of singing professionally, but says God reassured her during that turbulent time.

Still, those doubts came back, even after the success of her debut album.  That’s when she wrote You Say.

You say I am loved, when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong, when I think I am weak
And you say I am held, when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe

For Lauren, the song is a reminder of her identity.

“A reminder that, when I’m weak, He’s strong, so how do I change that and bring that into my everyday life?” she said.  “When I feel inadequate, how is it that there’s always these moments where I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies?

“This entire song was so that every single night, I would get up on stage and remind myself, ‘No, this is the truth… don’t get buried in confusion.”

The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity

You Say is a reminder of our identity, as well.

When we’re feeling inadequate, what does God say?

Because of Him, we are enough.
