Last Friday I became an uncle for the very first time! Eli Aleksandr Attaway was born about 8:30 in the morning one week ago today. My brother and sister-in-law live out in Memphis so I have only seen him through pictures and videos, so far. I am anxious to go see him in person, but I have to admit I already think he is pretty awesome!
As people of faith I think we all have a tremendous responsibility to take care of the generation that follows us and leave the world in a better place than we found it so they can continue to build upon what we have done. I especially feel that responsibility now for Eli. I want to pray for him daily. I want to be able to share stories with him about faith, family, and life. I want to go do fun things together and teach him all the things that parents don’t want their children to do, but uncles get the pleasure of doing!
I need some help from you, though. Having never been an uncle before I’m looking for some advice. What is the key to being the best uncle? What kind of things do I need to do? What are the most important things to know about being an uncle? How can I help provide a solid foundation for Eli to grow from and build upon?
