This week was Vacation Bible School at St. Luke’s Edmond. It was such an exciting time as we welcomed hundreds of kids and volunteers across our campuses. They sang songs, learned stories, played games, and did experiments all week learning about the love of God in their lives. I had a blast getting a front row to see these kids making memories.

Throughout the week I’ve been thinking back to memories from when I was a kid growing up at St. Luke’s. Over the years I remember going to Vacation Bible School, day camps, and Sunday School. There were so many people who took time to love me, teach me, and shape me into the person I am today. I will never forget my kindergarten Sunday School teacher, Mrs. June Blumhof.

Mrs. Blumhof taught Sunday School to countless kids over many years. She treated each one of us as if we were her own kids or grandkids. She loved us, shaped us, and made us all feel important. When I think of Mrs. Blumhof I’m reminded of the quote from Maya Angelou that said, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” To be honest, I don’t specifically remember any of the lessons Mrs. Blumhof taught us, but I will never forget the way she showed God’s love to us through the way she cared for us and made us feel loved.

Do you have someone like Mrs. Blumhof from your childhood who helped shape you and make you feel loved? And do you have an opportunity today to be that person for another child? What can you do to help raise up our children in the faith and let them know that they are loved?
