Losing something can ruin your day. Misplacing your keys, wallet, or cell phone will have you question everything and every place you have been. We will go to great lengths to find one of these lost items. Can you imagine what you would do if you misplaced $12,000.00 in cash?
A 71-year-old woman had gone to her local grocery store in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. After making her purchase, she returned home and realized that she had misplaced her envelope filled with cash. Her heart sank as she faced the possibility that her money was lost for good. She began retracing her steps with the help of her nephew.
They made their way back to the grocery store and asked around to see if anyone may have turned in the envelope. Unfortunately, no one had seen the envelope. They slowly returned to the car when two men came running out of the store. The two men were Dan Defosses, the store manager, and Mark Basket, a good Samaritan named Skip, who had found the envelope and was happy to return it with every dollar accounted for.
The safe return of that envelope was a true blessing. Her nephew offered Skip a reward. Later, he would post about it on social media, saying, “It takes a special kind of person to do something so honest and selfless, and Skip, you are a true example of integrity and compassion. Thank you, Skip — you’ve touched more lives than you know today.”
A day that was almost ruined was turned into a happy story when a person decided to put the needs of others above himself. When we choose compassion over selfishness, we become a blessing. Skip is a reminder that a willingness to give will make a difference in other’s lives.
