The historic flooding in Louisiana has captured the eyes of the nation. Donations, volunteers, federal agencies and political leaders have descended on Baton Rouge with the hopes of helping those affected.
I love a great story from Texas that involves both Democrats and Republicans working together to help others. After hearing about the terrible news from Louisiana Young Republicans from Texas and Arkansas set out to offer supplies to those who had lost so much in Louisiana. They started by setting up a special Amazon Wish List. The Texas Young Democrats quickly made contact and joined forces with their political opponents.
After both organizations joined forces, the donations began to flow to the people of Louisiana. These young, politically motivated people demonstrated what happens when we put aside our differences, look with compassion to the needs of others, and work together to make a positive difference. Cecelia Morgan, the President of the Young Democrats stated, “Some things are just bigger than ourselves.” Kindness, compassion, and a willingness to serve others make a lasting difference. I am grateful that these young political leaders choose to put the needs of others before their own ambition. Their kindness has helped to bring hope to those in need.
