Few people have made an impact on the basketball court like Shaquille O’Neal. In 1992, Shaquille was drafted number one in the NBA draft. He first played for the Orlando Magic before moving to the Los Angeles Lakers. It was in Los Angeles that he won three consecutive World Championships. Standing 7’1” and weighing in at 325 lbs. Shaquille was one of the most imposing figures on the court. His list of basketball accomplishments is significant. The four-time NBA champion is one of only three players to win the NBA MVP, All-Star Game MVP, and the Finals MVP.
Shaq retired from playing basketball in 2011. He is now an active media personality, helping to anchor NBA basketball on TNT. There is no doubt that Shaq is one of the best to ever play the game. However, Shaq makes an even bigger impact off the court. He is widely known for his surprise generosity.
Recently, Shaquille stopped into a Best Buy to purchase a new phone for himself. The staff and the customers were excited to see him enter the store. One of the most excited customers was Kquoella Lewis. Kquoella was in the store to purchase a new cell phone, as well. Shaq and Kquoella started talking about the phone they were interested in purchasing and then Shaq surprised her by buying a phone for himself and Kquoella.
This is not the first time that he has blessed people with surprise purchases. He has bought computers, clothes and even an engagement ring for a young couple. Shaquille knows that he has been very successful and wants to bless others through his generosity.
We have all been blessed. Our fortunes may not be as big as an NBA legend, but we have much to share. Shaquille O’Neal has brought so much joy to people around the world, simply by sharing a portion of what he has with others. When we share a portion of what we have with others, we too can bring joy. Generosity blesses others and lifts our spirits. Let us look for ways to practice surprise generosity and bring joy to others today.
