The war in Ukraine has been devastating for so many people. Families have lost loved ones, and innocent people have lost their homes, businesses, and so much more. It is estimated that nearly 8 million people have been displaced since February 24, when the war began. Of those 8 million people, over 7 million have left Ukraine. Families have been separated and many will never see their loved ones again. There are so many sad stories from Ukraine, yet there are wonderful people, doing what they can, to help bless people affected by this terrible war.

One of the families that fled Ukraine is the Rohozhyn family. Liana and her son, Misha, fled from their home when the bombs began to fall. They made their way out of the country to a safe place in Amsterdam. It was a difficult trip for all the reasons you might imagine. Fleeing their home was complicated by the fact that Misha, a teenager, is non-verbal and has Down syndrome. Misha did not understand what was happening around his home or why he and his mother had to flee.  Liana told her son that they would be going on an adventure around Europe to Misha’s hero, WWE wrestler and actor John Cena.  Misha was willing to travel for the possibility to meet the person who was on all the posters in his room. Liana and Misha eventually found a place to stay in Amsterdam.

Technology has made our world much smaller. Stories can be shared on social media and quickly travel from country to country. John Cena happened to be in England. He heard about Liana and Misha. He was so moved by all that they had been through, he decided to board a plane and travel to meet his fan, Misha.  John Cena met with Misha. They spent time eating, building blocks, and showing off their favorite wrestling moves. John Cena brought Misha several gifts, including a replica championship WWE belt. It was a day that Misha will never forget. It was a special day for all.

Our world is filled with struggles.  Every day, there are many sad moments for so many people. When Liana and Misha fled their home, they left behind their possessions, family, friends and so many wonderful memories. When John Cena went out of his way to spend one day with their family, he helped to bring joy to a long and difficult journey. John Cena did not have to go and spend time with the family, but giving his time and using his fame is how he makes a difference in the world. It is a wonderful reminder to each of us that we can all help overcome the struggles of our world if we are willing to give our time and talents to bless others. We can build a better world if we are willing to serve others who are in need.
