“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10
We jumped into my car and began the drive to Oklahoma City. I was a high school student in Lawton, Oklahoma. My friends and I had purchased tickets to see Les Misérables at the Civic Center. It was the Oklahoma City stop on the national tour. I must admit, I did not know what to expect. I had never seen a production like Les Misérables. I had some exposure to Broadway style music, but mostly I listened to country, rock, and rap.
That night was amazing! The orchestra, the singing, the stage came together to create a beautiful masterpiece. I watched as Victor Hugo’s classic novel was brought to life. I was so glad that my friends and I left the comfort of our homes and experienced something new that night. My eyes, my ears, and my heart were open to something new.
The next day, I found myself standing in Hastings Books and Records. I was looking for new CDs. You may remember that just a few years ago we had to go the store to purchase music. I had found a new passion for music theatre. I began to listen to the great music of shows like Miss Saigon, Guys and Dolls, Rent, and Les Misérables. It was a whole new world to experience and I was excited.
We have been given the gift of life. God intends for us to live this life to the full. Often, what keeps us from experiencing a full life is resisting something new for the sake of being comfortable. When was the last time you experienced something for the first time? What could you try today? What new thing could you experience this week? We live in a world filled with endless possibilities. Try something new and enjoy!
