“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14

Our lives are blessed by the people who invest in us. Those people are often teachers, mentors and leaders who help us become the people we are today. I have been blessed by encountering several special people who have invested in me as teachers and mentors.

This past Friday, I learned of the death of a teacher who made a special impact on my life. Rev. Dr. William Abraham was one of my professors in seminary. I was privileged to have several classes with Dr. Abraham. He was a challenging teacher that demanded significant academic effort from his students. He was also a devoted disciple of Christ and lived out his faith by helping others connect with God. In my final year of seminary, I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Abraham. Each Tuesday morning, I would join him and a few other students for breakfast. We discussed theology, the church, and how we would live out our faith as we became leaders in the church. I learned so much in Dr. Abraham’s classes and during breakfast.

As I reflected on my time in seminary this past weekend, I remembered many of the nuggets of wisdom that Dr. Abraham taught. My heart was filled with gratitude. I wrote his name in my St. Luke’s gratitude journal and a few of the quotes that I remember from his classes.

Each of us have been blessed by special people in our lives. These wonderful people are so important. They deserve our gratitude. I want to encourage you to take a moment and write the names of the people who have mentored you. When you record their names, take a moment to write why you are grateful for having these people in your life. We have so much because we have people who have invested in our lives. Let us take time to offer our gratitude to God for these special people. They are a gift from God and their love and leadership have been a gift to us. Thanks be to God.
