Each summer, St. Luke’s worship services take on the magic of Broadway. Talented guest performers fill the room with songs from beloved musicals, while Senior Pastor Dr. Bob Long brings each story to life, uncovering the powerful spiritual truths woven into every show.
On July 26, we’re kicking things off with Come From Away, a Tony Award-winning musical based on one of the most extraordinary acts of human kindness in recent memory.
Bring someone you love and discover how the story of Gander speaks to something deep in all of us.
About Come From Away
On September 11, 2001, 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, as U.S. airspace closed in the wake of the terrorist attacks. In a matter of hours, this community of 10,000 people opened their homes, schools, and churches to shelter and feed thousands of strangers from around the world.
Come From Away tells their story — a story of fear transformed by extraordinary welcome, of strangers who became neighbors, and of a town that chose love when it would have been easier to look away.
The parallels to our faith couldn’t be more powerful. Scripture calls us again and again to welcome the stranger, to love our neighbors, and to be people of radical hospitality. Come From Away puts that call on a stage and shows us what it looks like when ordinary people say yes to it.
